Public Law No: 111-148
This is President Obama's health care plan. It reforms aspects of private and public insurance programs, while allowing for the continuation of current Medicare and Medicaid practices. Most notably, it creates programs for those individuals currently uninsured by a private plan, Medicare or Medicaid. Changes to Medicare include: closing the donut hole by 2018; reducing subsidies to insurance companies providing Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) and providing for free preventive care services. The constitutionality of the individual mandate component of this law is being challenged and will be argued before the Supreme Court in 2012.
U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), and 40 others.
