What Is a Hospital Buying Group?

A hospital buying group is composed of a number of different hospitals and hospital chains that agree to buy products together to increase its collective purchasing power, causing reduced prices. Several hospital chains will join together to supply their respective hospitals. Supplies typically purchased by a hospital buying group include, but are not limited to, IV bags, stents, pumps and beds. Examples of hospital buying groups include Premier, Consorta and BJC HealthCare.
