AARP Foundation - AARP Elderwatch Project

The AARP Elderwatch Project is a program run by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office and AARP. The project fights the financial exploitation of older Americans in the state of Colorado through collection of data, outreach and education, and technical assistance. It provides information to and coordinates efforts by the state’s law enforcement offices, adult protection and mental health agencies| and organizations assisting older Americans – as well as efforts undertaken by older Americans themselves. The project: provides a hotline for seniors to call for information; disseminates information about consumer alerts; collects data; and develops public service announcements and commercials, as well as training materials and curricula for use by law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, adult protection and other agencies, family members, individuals, and the media.

Health Care for All Colorado

Health Care for All Colorado (HCAC) is a nonprofit social welfare organization begun in 2001 in response to the increasing numbers of Coloradans who are not able to secure basic health care in our current health care system. Division of Insurance - State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)

The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a national program that offers counseling and assistance to people with Medicare and to their families. Coordinators provide counseling on Medicare benefits, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D), Social Security, Medicaid and veterans' benefits. SHIP, formerly the Information, Counseling and Assistance (ICA) grants program, was created under section 4360 of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990. This act authorized the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to make grants to states for health advisory services programs for people with Medicare.

Colorado Elder Care Planning Council - Area Agencies on Aging

The Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) were established under the Older Americans Act (OAA) Comprehensive Services Amendments in 1973 to respond to the needs of Americans 60 and older in every local community. The Legal Center for People with Disabilities and Older People - Long-Term Care Ombudsman

The long-term care ombudsman advocates for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The office resolves complaints and educates seniors and long-term care providers about their rights and good care practices. The ombudsman also provides information to the public on nursing homes and other long-term care facilities and services, residents' rights, and legislative and policy issues. In 1978, an amendment to the federal Older Americans Act required every state to have an ombudsman program that addresses complaints and advocates for improvements in the long-term care system. The ombudsman program is administered by the Administration on Aging (AoA).

National Jewish Health

Michael Salem, president and CEO of National Jewish Health, started his medical career at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He taught general surgery and critical care and was a surgeon and critical care physician at the university’s hospital. Bruce Schroffel, raised in Berkeley, Calif., is the CEO of University of Colorado Hospital. He started his health care career at Montefiore Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. His first administrative job was for a community-based center in the South Bronx, where he soon became senior associate director for hospital relations. He later moved to the UCSF Medical Center, first as the director of operations, and was eventually promoted to senior vice president for the Center and Mount Zion Hospital. In 2001, he became director and CEO of Stony Brook University Hospital, a 504-bed academic medical center on Long Island in New York, where he oversaw a $300 million renovation. Craig Hospital

Thomas E. Balazy, board certified in physician medicine and rehabilitation, is medical director of Craig Hospital, where he started in 1987.
