Are Medicare Spending Rates Slowing?

Medicare spending growth has long been a source of political friction. Spending per capita on Medicare patients has exceeded the gross domestic product growth by an average 2.6 percentage points a year over the past four decades, according to the Congressional Budget Office. But a recent New England Journal of Medicine article discovered that Medicare spending is actually slowing and that it's not a fluke.
